So we made it back from Vermont and had a great weekend up there. Highlights include: Heifer Fest 2010 and Strolling of the Heifers in Brattleboro (although technically we missed it), free drinks at Weather Vane, shady motel that turned out to be pretty good, AJ sleeping with Holy Bible next to his head on partially deflated air mattress, Labatt Ice, Tony not having a seizure, Magic Hat brewery in Burlington (aka Girling), running into LVR HS grad Amanda Lotter, walking around Girling, rockin Radio Bean, Josh Finkelstein’s birthday, wanting to smash guitar and amp, free drinks again, the humble abode of brother Colin Butler, amazing Vermont Bacon, driving home through legit tornado. And also the monster pictured above!

Ummm…yeah

This photo was taken at a stop light in watertown yesterday and is pretty disturbing. AJ yelled “This is preposterous!” out the window at this guy…great stuff. Brattleboro is a cool little town and the bar was cool too with a big stage. Turns out “Heifer Fest” is this weekend but we missed the “Strolling of the Heifers” where everyone walks their cow down the street. What a shame. We played two sets but were told that we were too loud so we had to adjust our volume. Fun time though – free beer! Off to Burlington in a bit, once we get our asses into gear. Yay!

In Connecticut heading to NJ soon

Gorgeous day in CT even though there are mentally ill gunmen roaming the streets. Cool lil show last night even though there was no sound guy and the place kinda smelled like a barn mixed with wet dog mixed with a hamster cage. It wasn’t really really that bad though, I just like painting mental images. Tony’s familia came out to support and that was awesome. The lady who owned the bar randomly made us test the wattage of our flood lights because she was worried about her electric bill. Home town feel. Headed to NJ in a bit to seek out mentally ill gunmen. – Matt S.

Jam: Never

September 30, 2008 - 11:53 am 2 Comments

So in keeping with our normal style of things, every once in a while (at the end or at the beginning) of our sets we just like to start playing a riff and see where it goes. Kind of like when you’re a kid and you decide to set things on fire just to see if something cool happens. No one else did that? I’ve been informed that I should probably speak to a professional about this one.

Well most of the time it’s awesome, seeing the rawness of something, unshaped and in its natural form. That’s where our jams come from and that’s where this one comes from. So this next riff is something that everyone just started playing. Its called “Never” but the names for our jams are normally temporary.

Most of these jams we never end up visiting again, because we are like 4 ADD kids who just drank a pack of red bull, and are always distracted by the next cool riff. Which is one of the reasons we have about 50 songs and a 13 track cd (and a multitude of other scattered recordings – at last count I believe AJ had well over 500 CD’s of stuff)…

Tasty Jam #537 Keep Me In This Place

August 8, 2008 - 11:13 am No Comments

Here at Stem Co, we have a huge back log of crazy jams, its just a matter of getting them all up on line for your listening pleasure. A lot of these we don’t have titles before because they tend to happen once and then we never remember to play them again. Its part of the fun really, keeps the set different each time so when you fine people come to hear us play more then once you get something a little different each time.

This Jam “Keep Me In Place” is a funky little rock number that we tinkered around that gets a nice little edge to it. If you like funky rock like I do you’ll like this one. Its a shorter one around 6 minutes which for a jam for us is really short…..
