To Brooklyn and Back…

stem at copperfields

Another great series of shows occurred this past weekend. Stem and the band traveled 6 hours to Brooklyn NY to find out that the gig was cancelled when we showed up. Good thing both Matts just happen to love driving on the highway, and have been known to snap into uncontrollable fits of road rage at any given moment. Needless to say, great news for ourselves and the other performing band from Syracuse known as Sophistafunk (who are totally awesome and you should definitely check out). I will admit that the recordings on the myspace page don’t do them justice, but these guys are great live and the keyboard work was some of the sickest we’ve heard in a while.

The show was canceled due to a supposed broken PA system. So thanks to our unrelenting desire to play music we went on with a broken PA. AJ was screaming over the music so people could hear him, and at one point was singing into a microphone that wasn’t even plugged in, which was definitely a sight to be seen and heard.

After a long night which ended at about 5 or 6 AM for me back in Jersey City, I awoke to the soothing and pleasant sounds of the remaining crew who returned after their night out at 7:30. After much yelling, of “Shut up!, Shut up!, and Shut the F**k Up”, things calmed down a bit while everyone winded down to the peaceful movie of The Devils Rejects by Rob Zombie.

After an hour or so of sleep we hit the road and went back to Boston to rock Copperfields. Showered and injected with caffeine, we rocked the night out to all our great friends who came out…However not without a hitch. The bar manager was scared of our splatter box and was quite certain that the water-based, watercolor paint would catch on fire, killing everyone in an uncontrollable blaze of disaster. Understandable I guess, it’s rather safe to assume that watercolor can spontaneously burst into flames as with most water-based things.

In the end we respected their wishes and took it down since there is no need to start a fight over it, but I promise next time we will bring it up, and we will use it to make lovely post-expressionist splatter paintings of our songs to give to you for your tantalizing pleasure.  And yes, it can be used for tantalizing pleasure, among other things.

Thanks again to John Harding for rocking the email list at the show! And thank you Mark Kaye and Hear Now Live for another great show.

And of course thank all of you for coming out to this one… you know who you are.

Hard Rocking the Hard Rock

September 11, 2008 - 2:19 pm 3 Comments

This was probably our biggest show to date in Boston. Most of you were there so I don’t need to go into much detail. But we have a lot of great pictures of the band, and some great videos of the performance that will be on you tube soon enough. Hear Now live, and Mark Kaye but on this show, and Mark has been super awesome and has been giving us a lot of shows and a lot of help. Also thank you Chris Huang for taking some really good photos.

About 530 tickets sold to this event and the room was nicely filled sized for our set. I would say we rocked our own faces off, as well some others faces. However I did have one awkward conversation with a guy who was insistent that his face was intact, and we did not in-fact “melt his face, with mind blowing rock”. Though he may have been deaf, and or into Celine Dion. Not sure which is worse.

We have a ton of great pictures so it may force me to get a flicker account to get them all up but I will post a few of the great ones (aka embarrassing ones). Such as the look on Matt’s Face here.

Overall I want to  thank everyone for coming out to this, without you  this wouldn’t have been possible. It was a great night with great friends and great people. Once again thank you John Harding for selling more CDs then the merch guy. And thank everyone else, who after the show would make continued trips through the walk up McDonalds and allowed me to pick and grab at their food, hence me eating for free.

Though we probably won’t play there anytime soon as the drinks are far from cheap, it was a great time.

Return of the Lucky Dog

September 9, 2008 - 1:47 pm No Comments

After a very awkward setting at the last Lucky Dog show in Worcester. We didn’t know quite what to expect for this second show. We were also gearing up for our big Boston show at the Hard Rock Café which I will get into soon. The last time we played no one was there for our set, the two local bands who were supposed to be supporting were pretty much no shows. The sound guy loved us though.

However this time we were better stocked as we played along our good friends DPR. And also the Fear Nuttin Band, who recently just finished the Warp Tour. This time we played to a much more full house.  Going Get Gone opened up the set with a wide variety of songs and styles, really setting the stage for a great night. DPR as usual was fantastic and full of energy. And The Fear Nuttin Band was totally amazing. These guys are good and are getting bigger and bigger, so check them out when you get a chance.

I also have to thank my CT peeps for coming out and supporting the band. Andrea, Dawg, Geoff, E-roc came out from New Haven for a two show Stem Spree that was totally rocking.

Blaggards and Back again

September 8, 2008 - 1:42 pm No Comments

The next day was quite the road trip, the band along with special guests Casey McIntyre, and John Harding (our current Band Manager in training) traveled to NY to play a show at Blaggards on fifth avenue in Manhattan. On the way we saw this wild cloud structure that could have possibly been the upcoming end of the world. Though we had more important things to worry about, like this show. Great restaurant, though it wasn’t totally set up for live bands. We were one of four acts. Two of which decided not to show, and one showed up about 15 minutes after they were supposed to start playing. Taking it all in stride we rocked the house down anyway. A lot of Jersey friends came out and we ended up having as good a time as anyone would in the big apple. John was also the man at bringing out some last minute old friends and selling cds.

I also think I was propositioned by an attractive blond, and what may have been her boyfriend for a swinger style party. Not totally sure, but she asked to put her fingers in my ears, and then “he” asked for my number.

In the end me and the travel group ended back at Mama Butler’s apartment for a little R&R and some good old American diner food.

Overall we were pretty tired but as you can tell some of us woke up more rested then the others

Portobellies, and 3 hours of Stem

Hey All!The Ladies Showing the love

So its been a while since I posted . Things have been busy with most of the band. August has been one our busiest months. We were playing Friday and Saturday and night shows all over the region, every weekend. Just recently we had an awesome show at Portobellies in Brighton (the 15th to be exact) where we tried to play as quiet as possible, and then maintain that quiet for 3 hours. This is very hard for us to do, especially with the brothers Butler who live life loud. We did well for the first set, but as we drank more and people danced more, we got louder and louder for sure. However the night was a huge success. We made some money and had a good time with our friends, as you can see by some the happy ladies in the following pictures. When Stem does well the ladies are always happy :) hehe.  You can tell Megan is sure in this one, as opposed to unsure. That is a deodorant joke in case people don’t understand that last line.
Trying to be quiet

Sure or Unsure? this one is sure
